Debuting at The James Black Gallery, "Turmoil Of A Purge" is a four-part series about growing up with gender dysphoria. In these acts, I use dysphoria as a vessel to navigate through huge currents of melancholy, overcoming my mental confinement and having it be what collapses on top of me. Each movement represents a purge of everything I am feeling. The first act, “New,” represents the destruction of the resentment bound to my body, evolving into acceptance of my identity. The second act, titled “First,” deals with the discomfort that coincides with my acknowledgment. The third movement "Full" creates a moment of desolation for the visitor. As the tide recedes into open water, the work resolves into part four, "Quarter", which establishes freedom from disillusionment.
